The revolutionary F-150 might have been grabbing most of the the headlines recently, but for those more demanding towing and hauling tasks, the 2016 Ford F-250 Super Duty is the natural progression upwards from its excellent little brother. After all, there may be any number of excellent trucks on the market at the moment, but the F-Series has been America's favorite line of trucks for getting towards forty years now.
The standard engine in the 2016 Ford F-250 Super Duty remains the 6.2-liter V-8 that that puts out 385 horsepower and a pretty impressive 405 lb.-ft. of torque, which is plenty if you don’t really need to go as far as the amount the Power Stroke diesel gives you. If you really do need everything the F-250 can give you in terms of sheer power, that V-8 turbo diesel certainly won’t disappoint with its 440 horsepower and its best-in-class 860 lb.-ft. of torque.
With either engine choice and regardless of whether you go for front-wheel or all-wheel drive, the TorqShift 6-speed SelectShift automatic is the transmission the 2016 Ford F-250 Super Duty is equipped with. This particular transmission has been specially designed to cope with, and to make the absolute most of all that available torque.
Even the entry level versions of the 2016 Ford F-250 Super Duty are no-longer the Spartan utilitarian vehicles of the past, and going up the five trim levels can now take you into serious luxury territory. The entry level trim is the XL, which is then followed by the XLT, Lariat, King Ranch and finally the top-of-the-range Platinum trim. Standard equipment for the XL now includes: 18-inch wheels, a fifth wheel hitch kit, roof clearance lights, a radio with a CD and MP3 player, a stowable bed extender, steering wheel audio controls, remote start, and the now-essential rearview camera.
As you progress through the trim levels you start to get all the features and equipment normally associated with high quality sedans, but features are certainly not confined to just luxuries and connectivity. Safety is now a major feature of modern trucks for many buyers, and the F-250 isn't to be found lacking in this area either. Standard safety features now include: front and standard curtain airbags, traction control, stability control, hill start assist and hill descent control, an electronic locking rear differential, anti-lock braking, tire pressure monitoring and invaluable trailer sway control.
If you don’t quite need to go as far as an F-350 or an F-450, but the fabulous F-150 is still a little too light-duty for your requirements, the 2016 Ford F-250 Super Duty is a truly outstanding choice. As well as being among the most capable trucks in its class, it's still every bit as user-friendly as its light-duty sibling.
